Help my kitten will not eat
September 8, 2007
Help please.
My friend found a cat and I fed it food and everything and then came a surprise. Two kittens were born a few days later. I kept one of them, all black, with beautiful blue eyes, soft pads and everything. I got her 6 weeks after birth and me and my mom are trying to find out how to feed her. She will not touch her water bowl. She won’t touch her hard food. We are trying to use a baby bottle, but we have to force her to drink it and i don’t like it at all. I care for her so much and I don’t want her to starve or die of thirst. I just don’t want her to die on me. Is there any way for her to get fed easier?

At 6 weeks of age this is still pretty young to be separated from its mother. The kitten won’t have all of its permanent teeth until about 12-18 weeks of age so you’ll want to start with softer type foods. You can feed it canned kitten food or a semi-soft kitten food. Try to stay away from the dry food for awhile. The canned foods also are usually well liked by most cats so this should make things easier.
Since you are having problems getting the kitten to drink water canned kitten food is a great choice since it has a high water content. This will help to make sure your kitten stays hydrated.
Also make sure to have the water always available so the kitten can have it when it wants it and that foods you give it are specifically for kittens and not adults.
If problems persist, or you think something is wrong, it is best to take your kitten to a vet for a check up.
Good luck.
