Supplies You'll Need for Your Cat - page 2
Other Items You Will Need:
Collar and Name Tag - Although
not necessary for indoor only cats
collars and name tags are very important to cats that go out
doors. They provide instant visual cues that the cat is not a
stray and if lost provide contact information for safe return.
Toys - Toys
can be purchased at any pet store and come in all shapes,
sizes and colors. Some make noise and some have
catnip. Toys can also be made out of just about anything
around the house (an old shoe string with a knot on the end, cotton
balls, feathers, etc.). Sometimes a simple trick of running a
finger under a blanket is enough to entertain a cat until it tires.
Brush/Comb -
If you have a longhaired cat a brush will be
needed. If you have a shorthaired cat you can still use a
brush you just won't need it as often. Combs are generally
used for pest control and can also be purchased anywhere cat food is
sold.
Bed - Beds
are a great item to have but most cats will find a
comfortable spot and stake claim as their bed, not always being the
specifically purchased bedding.
Scratching Post -
If your cat is an indoor only cat then a scratching
post or scratching pad may help to deter the cat from sharpening its
claws on your furniture. Scratching posts and pads can be
purchased at pet supply stores or made from scratch.
Cat Door - If
your cat will be allowed outdoors, especially if allowed
to roam outdoors at all hours, a cat door is very helpful. In
some rural areas you may have more then just your cat using your cat
door so it's a good idea to purchase one that you can 'shut' for the
night.
Litter Box Bags -
These are bags that are used as a liner to the litter
box. They make for easy disposal of used litter and help keep
plastic litter boxes from absorbing liquid waste. They come
in different sizes so make sure to purchase ones that are sized
accordingly.
Nail Clippers -
Used to trim cats nails, nail clippers can be purchased
at any pet supply store. You can also use ones made for
humans.
Harness and Leash - A
harness and leash are necessary if you want to
let your cat outside but don't want it to roam free. They are
also helpful on pit stops when traveling with your cat.
